Most kitchen resprays in Ireland land somewhere between €900 and €4,000. That is a wide range, and it should be. A galley kitchen with ten flat doors and a family kitchen with an island, a run of tall units and thirty drawer fronts are different jobs, even before anyone looks at what the doors are made of.

We went through what Irish spray firms, painters and homeowners publish about kitchen respray prices, put the figures side by side, and turned them into estimate bands you can budget with. Then we explain, as painters, why your own price will sit higher or lower in those bands. If you already know you want the work done, our kitchen cabinet painting and respraying in Dublin page explains how we handle it.

These are estimates, not our prices. Every figure on this page comes from other Irish firms and from homeowners describing what they paid. We have not used them to price any kitchen. Your kitchen will differ in door count, material, condition and colour, so the only reliable number is a fixed price after a free look at the kitchen itself. Book a free on-site quote.

How much does a kitchen respray cost in Ireland?

Here are the bands we drew from the sources below. “Fronts” means every door and drawer front, counted separately.

KitchenRough front countSprayed (respray)
Small or galley8–14€900 – €1,800
Average L-shape15–25€1,500 – €2,800
Large, or with an island25+€2,500 – €4,000+
Per door or drawer front–€60 – €150 typical

Hand-painted kitchens are priced less often in public. The figures we found put hand-painting at roughly €40 to €110 per front, and Aqua Painting’s basic repaint (€900–€1,200) against its full respray (€2,000–€2,600) shows how big the gap can be. There aren’t enough published whole-kitchen prices to give reliable hand-painted bands by kitchen size, so we haven’t.

Treat each band as the range most quotes fell into, not a floor or a ceiling. Some homeowners report paying less, and some firms publish prices above the top of these bands for large kitchens with lots of prep.

What Irish firms and homeowners report

We only kept Irish figures in euro. Two UK cost guides ranked for the same searches and we left them out, along with one Irish table that credited its numbers to a UK firm.

One thing stood out while collecting these. Several Irish pages repeat the same three bands almost word for word, so ten pages can look like ten opinions when they are really two or three. We counted each set of numbers once.

How we turned those figures into estimate bands

For each kitchen size we took the published bands that gave a door count, lined them up, and kept the range where most of them overlapped. We trimmed the cheapest headline figures (like €700 for a small kitchen) and the open-ended tops (“€4,000+”) to the point where at least two sources agreed.

Per-front figures came two ways: from firms that publish a per-door price, and by dividing whole-kitchen bands by their stated door count. NW Spray’s 10–12 door band works out at roughly €70–€150 a front. Bespoke Spraying Solutions’ €2,450 for 28–30 fronts is around €85 a front before VAT. The hand-painted per-front range runs from the Kitchen Painter’s “from €40 a door” to the €2,600 Reddit quote for 24 doors, which comes to about €108 a door.

The homeowner reports mostly sit at or below the bottom of the firm bands. A €1,400 large kitchen finished in one day is a real price someone paid, but a one-day job usually means a different scope from a five-day off-site respray. Ask what is included before you compare totals.

Is hand-painting cheaper than spraying?

On paper, usually. Aqua Painting’s basic repaint is priced at roughly half its full off-site respray, and the lower per-door prices we found were for brush-and-roller work.

The Reddit quote complicates that. €2,600 for 24 doors, hand-painted with four coats, is above most respray bands for a kitchen that size. Hand-painting saves on spray equipment and masking, but a careful hand finish with full prep and enough coats is slow work, and labour is most of the bill.

The fair comparison is coat for coat and prep for prep. A cheap hand-painted quote with one primer and one top coat is a different product from a sprayed system with a bonding primer and two top coats. Our kitchen cabinet painting page covers when spraying or hand-painting suits a kitchen better.

Why your kitchen’s price moves

These are the things a painter looks at on a survey, roughly in order of how much they move the number.

How many fronts, and how big

Count the fronts and you have most of the price. A tall larder door or a 1,000 mm pan drawer takes more time and material than a small wall-unit door, so a front count with sizes beats “it’s an average kitchen”.

What the doors are made of

  • Solid timber. Paints well. Older timber can bleed resin or tannin through pale colours, so it may need a stain-blocking primer.
  • MDF, already painted or primed. The easiest surface to respray. Check the edges around the sink and dishwasher, where MDF swells when it gets wet. Swollen MDF won’t sand back flat, and paint won’t hide it.
  • Vinyl wrap or foil. The awkward one. If the foil is lifting near the oven or kettle, painting over it fails with it. The foil has to come off, which adds labour, or those doors get replaced.
  • Laminate and high-gloss acrylic. Paint struggles to grip these hard, slick surfaces. They need thorough keying and a proper bonding primer, which adds a stage.

Door style

Flat slab doors are the quickest. Shaker doors have inside corners and rails to sand and coat. In-frame kitchens, where the doors sit inside a painted face frame, mean a lot of detailed work in place. Glazed doors need the glass masked or the beading removed.

Condition

Grease is the big one. Kitchen doors near the hob carry a film you can’t always see, and it has to come off fully before anything else happens. Chips, dents, old handle holes and water damage under the sink all add filling and sanding time.

Colour change

Going from dark to light usually takes extra coats, and firms that itemise it add it on top of the base price. Ask whether the quote assumes a similar colour or a big change.

Off-site or in place

Some firms take the doors and drawer fronts away to a spray booth and spray the frames and end panels in the kitchen. Others do everything on site. Off-site spraying tends to give the most even finish on doors but adds collection, transport and refitting. On-site work needs the whole room masked: worktops, walls, appliances and floors.

The bits people forget

Cornice, pelmet, plinths, end panels, the back and sides of an island, the inside edges of open shelving, integrated appliance doors. Each one is a few more square metres to prep and coat. New handles or hinges are a separate cost again (Bespoke Spraying Solutions puts handles at €200–€500).

How long you’re without the kitchen

The published timelines vary a lot: Renovation Dublin says 2–3 days, OS Decor 3–5 days, and NW Spray 5–8 days start to finish with a day or two fully without the kitchen. Paint can feel dry within hours but takes longer to harden, so doors need careful handling for a while after they go back up. Ask any painter how long the kitchen will be out of use and when you can wipe the doors down.

Is respraying a kitchen worth it?

If the carcasses, hinges and layout are sound, it usually is. Irish kitchen companies publish new-kitchen prices far above any respray band: The Home Upgrade Co starts fitted kitchens at €12,000, with a typical family kitchen at €15,000–€25,000 including VAT, and Kitchen and Bedroom Perfect says most of their customers spend €18,000–€22,000.

It isn’t worth it if the units are falling apart, the doors have swollen badly around the sink, or you want a different layout. Replacement doors on existing carcasses sit somewhere in between, but we couldn’t find consistent published Irish prices for that, so get a figure from a kitchen fitter rather than relying on a guess here.

If you’re painting the kitchen walls and ceiling at the same time, that is priced separately from the cabinets. Our house painting cost guide covers room prices.

How to get an accurate quote

You’ll get closer, faster prices from any painter if you send this up front:

  1. Photos. One wide shot of each wall of units, plus close-ups of the worst doors (by the sink, the hob and the bin).
  2. A front count. Doors and drawer fronts listed separately, with tall units and glazed doors noted.
  3. Rough sizes. The height and width of a typical door, and of any tall or extra-wide ones.
  4. The material, if you know it. Paperwork from the original kitchen helps. If not, the photos will usually tell a painter what to check.
  5. What else is in scope. Island, end panels, cornice, plinths, frames, new handles.
  6. Your colour, and whether it’s going lighter or darker.
  7. Your dates, and how long you can manage without the kitchen.

At Original Dublin Painter we count everything on a free survey and give a fixed price rather than a guess over the phone. Request your free quote and send the photos with it. FAQs

How much does it cost to respray kitchen cupboards per door?

Irish firms publish anything from €40 a door (a “from” price in Roscommon) to €180 per door or drawer front. Most kitchens work out at roughly €60–€150 a front once you divide a whole-kitchen price by the number of fronts. Tall doors, shaker profiles and doors needing repairs sit at the top end.

Can you spray high-gloss kitchen doors?

Often, yes, but high-gloss acrylic and laminate are the hardest surfaces in a kitchen for paint to grip. They need thorough keying and a bonding primer made for slick surfaces, and the painter should check adhesion on the survey. Peeling vinyl-wrapped gloss doors are a different case: the foil has to come off first.

How long do resprayed kitchens last?

With proper degreasing, sanding, the right primer and a kitchen-grade topcoat, painted cabinets typically last 8 to 10 years or more. Prep is what decides it. Wear shows first around handles and on the doors nearest the kettle and hob.

Are the prices on this page what Original Dublin Painter charges?

No. They are estimates built from other Irish firms’ published prices and homeowners’ reports, checked on 15 October 2026. We price each kitchen individually after seeing it.

Do respray quotes include VAT?

Not always. At least one Irish firm in our table quotes plus VAT, so ask whether VAT is included before comparing quotes.

Is it cheaper to paint the kitchen myself?

The materials cost far less than a professional job, but the time and the finish are the catch. One homeowner in the r/ireland thread above was quoted €1,700 for a respray and did it with a brush and roller instead. If you try it, degrease properly and use a bonding primer, or the paint will start lifting around the handles first.
